Meet the Artist: Cassie Arden

Some people photograph a place.

Others photograph a feeling.

Cassie Arden does both.

Working almost exclusively on film, her photographs are rich with warmth, texture and a sense of nostalgia that can't quite be explained. Every frame feels considered, yet completely effortless - as though you've stumbled across a memory rather than a photograph.

That perspective began long before photography became her profession.

Growing up around farmers' markets, Cassie developed an early appreciation for the relationship between people and the natural world. She later studied Environmental Studies with a focus on food systems, deepening her understanding of landscape, seasonality and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.

In 2014, she picked up her dad's film camera.

She took photography classes at Middlebury College before managing the darkroom at Lewis & Clark College, where she learned not only how to shoot film, but how to slow down enough to truly see.

Today, those two worlds - environmentalism and art - exist side by side.

Her photographs celebrate shifting light, organic colour, movement and the fleeting moments that often pass unnoticed. The haze of winter. Persimmons in autumn. Sunlight dancing across skin. A landscape that changes by the minute.

There's an honesty to her work that resonates deeply with us.

Nothing feels forced.

Nothing feels overworked.

Instead, each image invites you to pause, breathe and appreciate the beauty in what's already there.
